Your Trust Matters to Us

VetsConnect is built by a veteran, for veterans. We understand the sensitivity of the information you share with us, and we take your privacy seriously.

Information We Collect

• Name, email, phone number (optional)
• Military status and branch of service
• Verification documents (DD-214, military ID) — used solely to verify veteran status
• Location data — to show discounts and resources near you
• App usage data for improving the experience

How We Protect Your Data

• All verification documents are stored in encrypted, private cloud storage (AWS S3)
• Documents are accessible only to you through secure, time-limited links that expire in 5 minutes
• We never share, sell, or distribute your personal information to third parties
• Your verification documents are reviewed only by authorized VetsConnect administrators for the purpose of verifying your veteran status
• All data transmission is encrypted using SSL/TLS

Document Vault

• Documents you store in the vault are private to you
• We cannot access your vault documents without your explicit permission
• You can delete your vault documents at any time
• Deleted documents are permanently removed after 30 days

Community Chat

• Messages are screened by AI for safety (hate speech, threats, crisis detection)
• We do not read your private direct messages unless flagged for safety or reported by another user
• Crisis detection is designed to help, not monitor — if our system detects you may be in crisis, it shows you resources like the Veterans Crisis Line (988)

Subscription & Payments

• Free to download, first 30 days free
• $4.99/month after trial period
• Cancel anytime through your app store
• Payments processed securely through Stripe

SMS/Text Messaging

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All other categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Your Rights

• You can request a copy of all your data at any time
• You can request deletion of your account and all associated data
• You can opt out of notifications (push, email, SMS) at any time
• You can delete your verification documents at any time
